Ethnology

Ethnographic materials in the collection include objects that are original to the site and also some reproductions of historic rugs. The reproductions were done by weavers working for Southwest Parks and Monuments Association. For example, some of the rugs that were on the floors of the Hubbell home have been reproduced. The originals are in storage. Additional reproductions for use as furnishings are needed. The ethnographic collection at Hubbell Trading Post is probably the finest in the NPS. Establishing this site as an ethnological forum and acquiring comparative artifacts is appropriate.

The Navajo rug was one of the most important elements in the operation at the trading post, and J.L. Hubbell was one of those most instrumental in the evolution of the Navajo rug. In an effort to establish the entire story of the evolution of the modern Navajo rug, contemporary rugs donated to the historic site will be accepted.

2001-2004 Limited Edition Festival Art Prints For Sale

Own the official artwork of Renton's annual festival. During 2001-2004, artists from the greater Seattle area entered into our annual Art Print contest. The winning print became a limited edition print, available for sale to the public. The prints are 18" by 24." Prints are $20. Discounted prices are $30 for two prints or $50 for the complete set (four prints). The art prints (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004) are available at the Renton River Days Office located at the Liberty Park Community Building (1101 Bronson Way N.).  The art prints will also be available for purchase at the Renton Annual Art Show, July 25-27, at the Renton Community Center (hours and information listed above).

Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, also a Democrat and a Hispanic, agrees. He appeared on the CBS "Early Show" with me on Monday morning. We were talking about the day without immigrants. After I explained my view on singing the national anthem in English and talked about this resolution, here is what Governor Richardson had to say:

“Well, I agree. The national anthem should be in English. And I believe that, again, most immigrants want to become Americans. They want to learn English. They want to be part of the American mainstream. They wear NFL jerseys. They want to be American.

“So I don't believe that view that immigrants want to learn the anthem in Spanish is accurate. I think that was a side show. But, definitely our anthem is English.”

Many specialized beds appear to be effective in reducing the development of pressure ulcers when compared with standard mattresses. For example, in 4 studies  cited by the systematic review  that compared standard hospital foam mattresses to enhanced foam alternatives, a summary relative risk was calculated, favoring the intervention group. Between-group comparisons of the previously defined low-technology constant low-pressure devices did not yield clear conclusions. Similarly, in 7 RCTs the comparison of alternating pressure devices with a variety of constant low-pressure devices (a water mattress, foam pad, static air bed and foam overlays) showed no significant difference in pressure ulcer development  However, a study of alternating pressure supports compared with standard foam mattresses did demonstrate lower pressure ulcer development in the intervention group  Comparing pressure-reducing devices among themselves (versus against a standard mattress) yields no significant differences in the prevention of pressure ulcers. These trials have been summarized in a recent review.

Amusement and Recreation Attendants specialize according to the activities they oversee.

341.367-010 RECREATION-FACILITY ATTENDANTS coordinate the use of recreation facilities such as golf courses, tennis courts, and baseball diamonds.

195.367-030 RECREATION AIDES help recreation leaders conduct activities in community centers or recreation facilities. They may set up equipment, welcome visitors, keep records, monitor sporting events and keep scores, and issue and store equipment and supplies.

341.677-010 CADDIES carry golf bags, hand clean golf clubs and balls to the players, and advise on club selection and course peculiarities, as requested by players.

341.665-010 SKI-TOW OPERATORS tend gasoline, diesel, or electric lifts which transport skiers up slopes and mountainsides.

342.657-014 GAME ATTENDANTS operate games at concession booths in parks, carnivals, fairs, or other amusement places. They attract customers to the games by describing them and the possible prizes.

342.677-010 RIDE ATTENDANTS assist patrons in getting on and off mechanical rides and control the number of riders.
